Friendship Award and Other Awards from the People's Republic of China


I was granted the Friendship Award, China's highest recognition of people who are not Chinese citizens but who have contributed to the country's economic and social progress.

In a similar vein, I have been honored by the cities of Shenzhen and Shanghai with their "Peacock Plan" and “Silver Magnolia Award” and “Gold Magnolia Award,” respectively, and I was one of ten “foreign teachers” to be given a "Medal of Merit for Education” in recognition of contributions to education in China over the past 60 years.



Honorary Membership in the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee [Iroquois] Confederacy


I was inducted into the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and granted the name Wambli Ska (White Eagle).

I was given the National Equal Justice Award by the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.

University Honors


I have been granted an honorary doctorate by Peking University, and honorary professorships at Xiamen University and the China Agricultural University.
